Application

Thermowells are recommended for temperature instruments in process systems where pressure, velocity, or viscous, abrasive, and corrosive materials are present individually or in combination. A properly selected thermowell will protect the temperature instrument from damage resulting from these process variables. Additionally, a thermowell enables removal of the temperature instruments for replacement, repair, or testing without affecting the process system.

How to select a suitable Thermowell

LIMITED SPACE

Application:

Limited space thermowells are used where a short insertion length is necessary as in short legs of tees etc.

STEPPED

Application:

Stepped (reduced tip) thermowells are normally used on standard duty applications where faster response times are needed

STRAIGHT

Application:

Tapered shank thermowells are designed for use on heavy duty applications or for use with larger bore

TAPERED

Application:

Tapered wells are used in many process applications and provide greater strength, faster response times and more resistance to vibration. The taper provides a higher natural frequency which permits use at higher fluid velocities.

FLANGED

Application:

Flanged thermowells are used, when the pipe spec. calls for flange executions and at elevated pressure. The thermowells are supplied with flanges according to B 16.5 with raised face or ring type joint for pressure classes from 150 ‑ 2500 lbs.

The flanged thermowell may either have the flange welded on the shank (stem), or the flange and shank may be forged as an integrated unit for use in severe service conditions.

Flange sizes are : 1", 1 1/2", and 2".
